Our lives must be remade

The/our foundations/(best plans) were (mis)laid
To our gods we must/should have prayed/
On our enemies we preyed
After another/countless war raid(s)

Sitting under(neath)/in the shade
Cutting against the grade
The consequences were (all) weighed
After our lives/minds have greyed

Our resolve/determination could not be swayed
Masks of hatred/anger were sprayed
